Enjoy live music and delicious crawfish while raising awareness and funds for the Pulmonary Hypertension Association.

Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) is a lung and heart condition caused by a build up of smooth muscle cells in the lungs that puts extra pressure on the heart, which can lead to heart failure. PH is currently incurable, but is increasingly treatable, and affects both males and females of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. The annual event to raise awareness for PH started back in 1999 by Jack Stibbs, a resident of The Woodlands. Stibbs knows all too well the seriousness of the condition and the importance of detecting PH early on. His daughter was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension as a young child.

“My daughter was diagnosed at age five and was given three years to live,” said Stibbs. “Now she will be 23 next month, and is out of college and working in The Woodlands. Today there are 13 treatments for PH, but there is still no cure.”

Stibbs originally started raising money for the Pulmonary Hypertension Association by hosting a golf tournament each year. Then, the Louisiana native had an idea to bring an authentic crawfish festival to The Woodlands.

“Being from Louisiana, I always wanted The Woodlands to have its own crawfish festival. Our festival is all about family fun, and we have activities for all ages,” said Stibbs. “All the money that we do raise, the net funds go to a research fund for PH.”

Now, The Woodlands CrawPHish Festival grows exponentially each year. Last year, over 4,000 people attended the event, and more than 4.5 tons of crawfish was consumed. At this year’s event, not only will there be crawfish, but also catfish and barbeque.

The 2015 Woodlands CrawPHish Festival will be bigger and better with a top-of-the-line entertainment lineup including the highly anticipated headline performance of country music artist Jack Ingram. Originally from The Woodlands and a graduate of TWHS, Ingram will be coming back to his hometown to entertain the attendees with his well-known hits such as “Wherever You Are,” “Measure of a Man,” “Maybe She’ll Get Lonely,” and the popular summer anthem, “Barefoot and Crazy.” Patrons can also enjoy music from Jean Pierre and the Zydeco Angels, and The Scooter Brown Band.

While eating authentic, Louisiana crawfish, attendees can enjoy some Cajun fun and live music throughout the whole day. There will also be plenty of activities for the children including an inflatable slide, a moonwalk, a mobile video game theater, and much more.

“It is amazing to see The Woodlands residents come out on a beautiful day on The Waterway and enjoy great music while eating lots of crawfish,” said Stibbs. “Doing both golf and crawfish fundraisers for the past 16 years, we have raised over 2.5 million dollars alone for the Pulmonary Hypertension Association.”
