MUMFORD, Texas — The Lady Highlanders softball team swept the Lake Travis Cavaliers 7-0 in the first game of their series in the regional finals on Friday.

Abby Langkamp stunned Lake Travis as she threw a shutout, allowing no runs and giving up only one hit.

With two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth, the Lady Highlanders had a strong ending to the game with another four runs in the seventh and final inning.

Head Coach Richard Jorgensen said at this level, a great defense is key to winning games. While there weren't any runs in the first three innings, the Lady Highlanders held up a strong defense that payed off later in the top of the fourth.

“We had some chances there in the first couple of innings, then they made a great double play,” Jorgensen said. “They made some good plays and were able to get out of it, but I felt good early on because we were moving the ball and getting some hits but just weren’t putting them together.”

The team will play their second game in the series at Mumford on Saturday, May 30.
