Five questions with the War Eagles

THE WOODLANDS, Texas - In celebration of the Oak Ridge War Eagle baseball team reaching the UIL Region 2-6A final that will be played this week, we thought it would be nice if we all could get a look at the human side of these talented and classy players. Welcome to our first installment of War Eagle 5-Q (five questions with the War Eagles).

Our first player is future Sam Houston Bearkat baseball player, Riley McKnight. I pointed out baseball because he was given the option of playing both baseball and football by the powers that be in Sam-Land. However, Riley decided on just baseball.

Riley is a very classy young man and like all of his teammates, when interviewed the first thing out of his mouth is about how the team plays well together and if we noticed the play that so and so made. He's always thanking whoever is interviewing him indicating how he and his teammates really appreciate the exposure and how it's great how the news services travel all over the state covering the team.

So, without any further adieu, I give you the first version of War Eagle 5-Q with the very unselfish Riley McKnight followed by Luken Baker:

1) What is your favorite movie of all time?

Interstellar...because I love space and am very interested and curious as to what else is out there in this universe.

2) If you were given the opportunity to be a superhero, which one would it be and why?

Superman...because he can fly and is nearly invincible just like our team.

3) You are stuck on a deserted island for 30 days with the one person of your choice. Who will it be and why?

Bear Grylls....because he is an expert in the wild and knows how to survive in deserted locations.

4) You are playing in the state championship game. The score is tied 2-2 in the bottom of the 7th inning with two outs and the bases are loaded. The pitch count is 0-2. Before the pitch, you already know the pitch will be right at your face and you'll lose all of your teeth on one side of your mouth. What do you do?

I let it hit me and we win the championship and then get to the oral surgeon as fast as possible.

5) You are 40 years old and your daughter is 17. You have the choice of whom on the team will date your daughter. Who will get that honor? Why?

Kolton Forsythe because he is a good young man and is respectful and has learned from the best...Me

Our second War Eagle 5-Q subject is the Gatorade National High School Player of the Year, Luken Baker. Most of us have heard all about all of Luken's baseball honors, ad nauseam. It's time you met Luken the person...and what a great person this young man is.

Recently, Luken informed all major league baseball teams that he'll be playing for TCU so he can be a two-way player instead of just a pitcher or just a position player. In doing this, Luken walked away from being a millionaire. So, you already know he isn't about the money. Obviously, money doesn't run his life. He'll tell you he values education not only in the classroom but outside of the classroom as well. The college life is just a tad more life educating than going from cheap hotel to cheap hotel in the minor leagues, no doubt.

Meet Luken Baker, the regular guy:

1) What is your favorite movie of all time?

The waterboy because I like the quotes and I like Adam Sandler movies.

2) If you were given the opportunity to be a superhero, which one would it be and why?

Superman...because he is the ultimate super hero.

3) You are stuck on a deserted island for 30 days with the one person of your choice. Who will it be and why?

I'd have to say Chita Johnson...the weather girl because....well....because....she has a great personality.

Yeah, I would let it hit me but I would probably turn and let it hit my helmet. (Note: I shouldn't allow that answer but I'll cut him some slack)

Bailey Cobb because he's smart, has a secure future and how he treats his girlfriend.
