National Ice Cream Day is July 19
THE WOODLANDS, Texas - There’s nothing more refreshing than cold ice cream on one of the hottest days of the year. Sunday, July 19, is National Ice Cream Day, celebrated annually on the third Sunday in July. It is by Presidential proclamation that the country celebrates the day. In 1984, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed July as National Ice Cream Month, and also established the third Sunday in the month as National Ice Cream Day.
Ice cream dates back to the year 200 B.C. The Chinese are credited with creating a confection using a frozen mixture of milk and rice. Ice cream was introduced to the United States by Quaker colonists who brought their ice cream recipes with them. The earliest reference to ice cream in North America was in the Oxford English Dictionary dating back to 1744.
