THE WOODLANDS, Texas - It was announced in June that Leslie Madison, head coach of The Woodlands High School Volleyball Team, would be leaving TWHS to fill the position of head coach at Magnolia High School. It was later announced that Terri Wade, head coach of the Montgomery High School Volleyball team, had been chosen to succeed Madison as head coach.

Wade, who played outside hitter and setter at Henderson State University, hopes to teach the Lady Highlanders “that physical preparation will help them become mentally tough. Mental toughness is one of the best skills of athletes that will make them better players and prepare them for life lessons.”

When speaking upon her excitement as the new head coach, Wade expressed, “I feel honored to be a part of an established program with such an amazing support group. Everyone from the administrators, coaches and parents have been very welcoming and helpful in making the transition. I know I will coach some amazing young people, and I hope that I can build relationships that last a lifetime. I also look forward to coaching some of the best athletes in the state.”

While at Montgomery High School, Wade and her team advanced to playoffs for seven consecutive years during her seven years as head coach. Ironically, the Lady Highlanders eliminated the Montgomery Bears in the first round of last season’s playoffs.

As head coach of The Lady Highlanders, Wade hopes that she “can bring the team something new or different that will make them better players and prepare them for life lessons.”

Along with bringing something new to the table, Wade wants to learn from her team what it means to them to be a Highlander.

“What is it that keeps their drive going, and how do they keep the expectations high for the younger athletes coming up?” asked Wade.

When she’s not on the court, Wade enjoys spending time outdoors with her children, Jett and Tatum, as well as continuing to play volleyball and competing in triathlons with her husband.

As far as the 2015-2016 season, Wade feels she will have a powerful team.

“I know there are five returning seniors. They are experienced players that know what it’s like to win. I think we will have a strong team, and I can’t wait to get the opportunity to see them all together and coach them.” Wade continued, “I hope I will continue the success of the program and become a part of TWHS family.”

The Lady Highlanders play there first game of the season on August 11 in TWHS gym at 5:30 p.m. against College Station.
