4th Annual Fast Draw Contest for junior high students set for Sept. 12
THE WOODLANDS, Texas – On Saturday, September 12, The Woodlands Mall will host the 4th Annual Fast Draw Contest in which 7th and 8th grade students have 50 minutes to complete a still-life drawing. The event is produced by The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council Because Art Matters and sponsored by Mercedes-Benz of the Woodlands and The Woodlands Mall.
The Fast Draw Contest, held on the lower level near Nordstrom from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., consists of a 50-minute work session where students will draw a still life set up by Because Art Matters. Students work against the clock, and when the 50 minutes are up, the artwork will be judged and Shop Etc. Gift Cards from The Woodlands Mall will be awarded for first, second, third and honorable mention. Supplies, including 11”x14” sheets of paper, lead pencils, sharpeners and erasers, will be provided for the artists.
Interested students must pre-register for the Fast Draw Contest at www.woodlandswaterwayartscouncil.org. Fast Draw is limited to the first 50 eligible students who register. There is no charge to participate, but the pre-registration must be submitted by Wednesday, September 9. Because Art Matters will maintain a waiting list of 20 potential contestants once registration is full.
Awarded artwork will be displayed in The Woodlands Mall’s Spotlight on the Arts gallery, located on the upper level near the Food Court, for one year after September 12.
Because Art Matters is the community and educational outreach arm of The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council, a nonprofit organization that provides cultural enrichment through the arts. The Woodlands Mall has participated in BAM community projects since the fall of 2011.
