THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Ten senior athletes from The John Cooper School were named finalists for the Rotary Club of Lake Conroe’s Mike Ogg All-Montgomery County Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Honored finalists and their sport include Cross Austin, boys’ baseball; Tristan Craig, boys’ soccer; Kathryn Early, girls’ basketball; Bella Evans, girls’ track & field; Michael Gerber, boys’ football; Turner Gregory, boys’ tennis; Ryan Mullen, boys’ track & field; Sydney Shannon, girls’ swimming; Taylor Sloop, girls’ softball; and Hannah Weinstein, girls’ tennis.

"I am extremely proud of this excellent group of seniors the Rotary Club selected as finalists this year. All of them are exceptional scholar athletes and are tremendous representatives of The John Cooper School. I wish them the best of luck at the banquet on May 4,” said Scott Holland, interim athletic director for The John Cooper School.

This is the 11th annual Mike Ogg All-Montgomery County Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Lake Conroe, created to honor outstanding men and women. Area high schools nominated an athlete per sport and five were chosen as finalists in each sport based on ability in their chosen activity, academic achievement, school awards, activities and community involvement. Finalists will be honored at an awards banquet at The Lone Star Convention Center on May 6, where one winner per sport and one overall boy and girl winner will be selected. This year, a boy and a girl scholar athlete will be selected from each school.
