Houston, TX -- Thanksgiving travelers are paying the highest prices ever for a gallon of gasoline for the month of November, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide average climbed three cents this week to $2.973 a gallon following a 14 cent weekly climb last week.

“Texas travelers are facing near record high fuel prices as we move closer to the Thanksgiving holiday,” said AAA Texas spokeswoman Rose Rougeau. “This is the first time AAA Texas has seen gas prices topping more than $3.00 a gallon in November. Current fuel prices are 87 cents higher than last year’s prices. However, higher gas prices are not expected to discourage Americans from connecting with their loved ones.”

The Houston area has the state’s cheapest gas at $2.90 – up four cents. Amarillo has the state’s highest average price at $3.12 a gallon – a weekly increase of five cents.

The nationwide average rose five cents to $3.11 a gallon.
