Popular Children's Author Jon Scieszka Visits The Woodlands
THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Wednesday, August 26, author Jon Scieszka visited Barnes and Noble to read excerpts from his popular children’s novels. Scieszka, who wrote The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Fairy Tales, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, Math Curse and many other favorites, thrilled the audience of both children and adults. His bubbly personality filled the air and laughter from his commentary could be heard throughout the store. He shared how he came up with stories and read a few favorite rhymes from his latest Trucktown books.
Scieszka then opened the floor for questions. He recalled meeting Laura Bush when he was named the Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, and how he thinks it would be very effective to reach kids if he could fly in on a big helicopter. The children roared with laughter at the picture he painted in their minds of a giant helicopter landing on the playground and him jumping out and encouraging kids to “Read! Read! Read!”
At the conclusion of the evening, Scieszka signed books and took pictures with fans. Children and adults faces lit up as they walked away holding a personalized version of their favorite children’s book. Scieszka had a warm welcome in The Woodlands and many hope to see him back soon.
