Homers propel The Woodlands past Oak Ridge

OAK RIDGE NORTH, Texas – The Woodlands High School baseball team played long ball on Friday night, hitting six homers in a 12-1 five-inning win at Oak Ridge.

Garrett Hope led the barrage with two homers and drove in three runs as the Highlanders (16-2-2, 3-0) scored five runs in the first inning, scored in each of the first four innings, including a four-run fourth inning to complete the output.

Elliot Richoux sparked the home run derby with a two-run blast in the first inning, scoring Lance Miles, whose double plated Andrew Godail. Robbie Goldschmidt also belted a first-inning two-run homer. Landon Merka, who walked, scored in from of Goldschmidt.

Merka and Ryan Flynn also homered in the 14-hit attack. Godail accounted for three hits while Richoux, Goldschmidt and Hope contributed two hits apiece. Alex Dunlap and Charlie Warren also added hits.

It was more than enough for Godail to earn the victory on the mound. Godail pitched all five innings, striking out seven, allowing no earned runs, while yielding just four hits. Oak Ridge’s Connor Sarant collected three of those. Tyler Cook had the other for the War Eagles, who slip to 9-11 overall and 1-3 in District 14-5A play.

The Woodlands remains the only unbeaten team in district play.

College Park beats Conroe

The College Park High School baseball team held off Conroe 7-5 Friday at The Diamonds at College Park.

The Cavaliers (11-8, 2-1) built a 7-1 lead and then held on. College Park scored three runs in each of the first and third innings and that was enough to offset Conroe’s (2-2, 11-8) two runs in each of the fifth and seventh innings.

College Park banged out 10 hits to make starter Derek Wade a winner. Wade went 4 2/3 innings allowing just three hits. Greg Jakusik worked 1 1/3 of no-hit relief, striking out two. Corey Toups got the save, pitching the final inning.

Toups and Mitchell Price each hit homers to help stake the Cavaliers to the big early lead. Toups had two hits, drove in two runs and scored two more. Alex Young and Kevin Barnes had two hits each in the 10-hit attack.

Zach Wilson (2 RBI), Jeff Biehn and Dakota Parsons also added hits.

The Cavaliers move into a second-place tie with Lufkin, one game behind front running The Woodlands.
