Lady Cavs split Day 1 of Texas Inv.

DEER PARK, Texas - College Park Lady Cavaliers used a 10-0 fourth-quarter run en route to a 45-35 victory in their second game of the Texas Invitational tournament at Deer Park High School.

“We talked about playing more than one quarter and we did. In both games (today) we ended the game good, so that’s an improvement knowing that we can finish,” said Lady Cavalier Head Coach Michelle Richardson.

Senior Andrea Velez scored 11 points to pace College Park while with Sophomore Katie Gunther and Sophomore Lauren Harrison each scored nine and eight points each, respectively.

College Park re-gained the lead for good on the heels of a 10-0 run to begin the fourth quarter, turning Deer Park turnovers into fast break opportunities. The Lady Cavaliers built a nine-point lead with 2:42 left in the game on Junior Haley Fitzpatrick’s two free-throws.

College Park will continue pool play in the Texas Invitational tournament on Friday versus Pasadena at 1:30 p.m., at Pasadena High School.

Lady Cavs fall to Clear Creek in first game in Texas Invitational

PASADENA, Texas - The College Park Lady Cavaliers used a 12-5 fourth-quarter run, but fell short in a 45-39 loss to Clear Creek in first game of the Texas Invitational Tournament at Pasadena High School.

“We can’t get ourselves in a hole like that, it’s hard to come out of it. When our defense is working, then our offense gets us going and moving,” said Lady Cavalier Head Coach Michelle Richardson.

The Lady Cavaliers used a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter to bring a 13-point deficit to within a single possession. Senior Ashley Harrison hit a three-point shot with 45 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Clear Creek did not have a field goal for the final 4:30 of the fourth quarter. Clear Creek was 3-of-4 from the free throw line in the game’s final 37 seconds to hold on for the win.

College Park Lady Cavaliers will continue pool play at 4:30 p.m., when they face Deer Park this afternoon.
