THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Her goals are quite clear and the singularly focused junior left-hander is doing all she can to make them a reality.

Abby Langkamp is leading The Woodlands High School softball team (23-2, 7-0) , both in the circle and at the plate, towards another run at the big prize.

“Definitely state, for sure,” Langkamp said is where her sights are set. “That’s been my dream ever since I came to this program.”

Inspired by the Lady Highlanders’ recent state and national championship, Langkamp has gotten a taste of what that would be like, playing for the varsity team since her freshman year.

“Watching the (2011 state championship team) in the eighth grade, I was like, ‘I want to do that.’ The last few years we were close, but this year I really want to kick it in,” Langkamp said.

She threw a perfect game in the 2014 District 14-5A opener and combined on a no-hitter in another district game. She also homered in Tuesday’s win over Conroe, exemplifying the motto of the No. 5 state-ranked team.

“Our motto this year is ‘Hunger Games.’ We need to stay hungry,” Langkamp said.

Well, aware that it takes a team to make it happen, Langkamp said she believes that chemistry is on the side of the Lady Highlanders.

“It’s amazing,” she said. “We’ve had no drama. I’ve never been on a team like this. We all get along. It’s so much fun. I love this team so much.”

“Abby looks like she’s hit her stride,” Lady Highlanders softball coach Richard Jorgensen said. “She’s been with the program a couple of years now. We threw her into the fire and she’s responded.”
