Spring training has always been a proving ground for young prospects trying to impress. Using that time to earn a spot on a Major League roster isn't the easiest thing to do.

But relief pitcher Scott Atchison has been making a career of it.

The 38-year-old graduate of McCullough High School made the Cleveland Indians' 2014 Opening Day roster. It's the third straight year he's made the cut with an impressive spring training session, all with different Major League teams.

Atchison appeared in 10 games this spring for Cleveland, posting a 2.70 ERA over 10 innings pitched. He faced a total of 40 batters, struck out 11 and walked only one while allowing just 10 hits and three earned runs.

The 6-foot-2-inch righty was originally drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 49th round of the 1998 draft.

In addition to the Mariners, where he spent two Major League seasons, Atchison has pitched a year with the San Francisco Giants, three seasons with the Boston Red Sox, and last year with the New York Mets.

For his career, Athcison is 10-10 with a 3.64 ERA. He has recorded 192 strikeouts over 255 innings pitched, spanning 205 Major League games.

His best season was 2012 with the Red Sox when he posted a 1.58 ERA over 51.1 innings, striking out 36.
