THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The Woodlands Lady Highlander softball team is steamrolling through the district schedule and looked to clinch at least a share of the district title with a win Friday night, when the Lady Highlanders hosted Bryan.

The Woodlands clinches District 14-5A Softball title

The Woodlands gets on the board first when Shelby Dublin singles and scores Sidney Salmans, giving the Lady Highlanders a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second inning, the bats come alive for The Woodlands. Emily Langkamp gets a base-hit to center field, Martinez scores, making it 2-0 Lady Highlanders. Aubrey Leach singles and knocks in Brittney Mann, making it 3-0 The Woodlands. The inning continues when Emily Langkamp will then come in to score on an error, then Sidney Salmans grounds into a fielders choice, scoring Amy Cimera as The Woodlands extends to a 5-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third, Abby Langkamp just uncorks one and sends the ball over the right-field fence, giving the Lady Highlanders a 6-0 lead after three innings of play.

All of the scoring was more than enough for Lady Highlander starting pitcher Abby Langkamp as she struck out five of the first six batters she faced. Langkamp threw 4.1 innings and striking out six.

However Bryan would not go away quietly, in the Top of the fifth, Madison Goolsby singles up the middle and a Lady Highlander error gets a Bryan run home as the Lady Vikings trail 7-1. Another infield single gets the bases loaded with just one out. Courtney Meier gets a base hit scoring Goolsby and its 7-2. That would be it for Abby Langkamp’s night as Richard Jorgensen goes to Caitlin Bartsch in relief. Bartsch then gets the next two Lady Viking batters to ground out ending the Bryan threat.

Bryan wouldn’t threaten again as The Woodlands takes it by the final score of 7-2.

The Woodlands improves to 10-0 in district, 26-2 overall and with the win over Bryan combined with an Oak Ridge loss earlier in the evening, the Lady Highlanders have clinched the 2014 outright district 14-5A championship.
