Lady Highlanders surge past Klein Collins

SPRING, Texas - The road to Austin for The Woodlands Lady Highlander softball team began Thursday night in Spring with Game one of the best-of-three Bi-District playoff series against Klein Collins at Klein Oak High School.

The Woodlands uses 7-run 6th-inning for 1-0 series lead


Klein Collins had a couple of timely RBI-singles in each of the first and second innings to take an early 2-1 lead.

The offense for the Lady Highlanders begins to click in the top of the third inning as The Woodlands collects four singles and ties the game at 2-2 when Kaitlin Stavinhoa gets a single-RBI scoring Amy Cimera.

Klein Collins starting pitcher Kymber Green and Lady Highlander starter Abby Langkamp began to settle down as Green induces a couple of pop-ups and groundouts. Langkamp doesn’t give Klein Collins much to hit at as she recorded her seventh strikeout by the fifth inning.

We move to the top of the sixth, when The Woodlands comes alive again. Kelcy Leach draws a lead-off walk, then Abby Langkamp gets hit by the pitch and the Lady Highlanders are in business with runners on first and second with no outs. Brittany Mann with a beautiful sacrifice bunt, to move the runners up. Emily Langkamp then steps in and singles up-the-middle, courtesy runners Martinez and McCallum score and The Woodlands has its first lead at 4-2 with just one out in the top of the sixth-inning.

Next batter is Aubrey Leach and she gets a double and two more RBI’s and the Lady Highlanders take a 6-2 lead. The hit parade continued as The Woodlands bats around with seven runs on six hits and takes a commanding 9-2 lead.

Abby Langkamp settles in and records the final six outs and The Woodlands scores three more runs in the top of the seventh to take Game 1 in the best-of-three series with a 12-2 win over Klein Collins.

With the win the Lady Highlanders take a 1-0 series lead and improve to 29-2 overall. Game 2 will be Saturday, April 26 at 5pm at Klein Oak High School.
