Lady Highlanders complete sweep, advance to Area
THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The Woodlands Lady Highlander softball team came off an impressive 12-2 win over Klein Collins in Game 1 of the Bi-District playoffs, with the Lady Highlanders looking for the sweep on Saturday and advance to the Area round.
The Woodlands was red-hot out of the gate as they scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, keyed by Kaitlyn Stavinoha’s double and 2-RBI’s.
Klein Collins doesn’t go away, in the top of the third gets a run on a fielders choice to first base and then a single and two more Lady Tigers and that trims the Lady Highlander lead to 4-3.
The Woodlands continues to churn out the offense, scoring six runs in the third and fourth-innings combined. It all started with Kelcy Leach’s solo home run giving The Woodlands a 5-3 lead. Emily Langkamp with a beautiful suicide squeeze to bring in Kayla McCallum and it’s 6-3. Stavinhoa in the fourth-inning hits a single up-the-middle scoring Aubrey Leach and Sidney Salmans and The Woodlands has a commanding 8-3 lead.
The Lady Highlanders had a 10-3 lead in the Top of the 6th with two outs and seemingly on cruise control, with runners on first and second base for Klein Collins. Lady Tiger Demi Janak hits a three-run home run to right-center field for Klein Collins to pull to within 10-6.
Abby Langkamp gets back one of the runs in the bottom of the sixth with a hard-hit single to right-field, scoring Kerry Martinez, giving The Woodlands an 11-6 lead after six innings.
The Woodlands doesn’t allow the Lady Tigers to rally again as Abby Langkamp settles down and The Woodlands takes Game 2 11-6 and sweeps the Bi-District series over Klein Collins 2-0.
With the win the Lady Highlanders improve to 30-2 and will advance to the Area round in a three-game series beginning Friday, May 2, against Austin Bowie at Bryan High School.
