Lady Highlanders roll past Plano West

WACO, Texas - The Woodlands Lady Highlanders pounded out eight runs on 10 hits in the first three innings Thursday night en route to a 8-3 win in Game 1 of the Class 5A Region II Regional Semifinals at Waco Midway High School.

The Lady Highlanders got the party started immediately when Aubrey Leach gets a lead-off bunt single and scores shortly after on a Sidney Salmans double to center-field and RBI. The Woodlands continued when Shelby Dublin’s infield single scored Salmans and just like that it was 2-0 Lady Highlanders with just one out into Game 1.

The Woodlands (35-3) continued the offensive outburst scoring six more runs in the second and third innings combined. Sidney Salmans got another RBI in the top of the second inning with an infield single that scored Emily Langkamp and gave the Lady Highlanders a 3-0 lead. Next batter Kaitlyn Stavinhoa’s double to center field scored Aubrey Leach and Sidney Salmans and The Woodlands was in control with a 5-0 lead.

In the top of the third inning, Emily Langkamp’s line-drive single to left-field scored Kerry Martinez and The Woodlands extended its lead to 6-0. Two Plano West errors in the inning gave The Woodlands a 8-0 lead after just two and a half innings.

Lady Highlander starting pitcher Abby Langkamp was her usual dominate self as she threw a complete game scattering six hits and striking out six. All three Plano West runs came late in the game as the Lady Wolves didn’t threaten a comeback attempt.

The Woodlands leads the series, 1-0 with Game 2 tomorrow at 6pm at Waco Midway High School. If necessary, Game 3 will follow at approximately 8pm Friday night.
