Cypress Custom Pools: Creating dream pools built to the highest standard

THE WOODLANDS, Texas - After 20 years of serving the Cypress area, Cypress Custom Pools has opened an office in The Woodlands to extend its reach to the rest of the Greater Houston Area.

A well-established custom swimming pool building service, the company belongs to a number of accredited associations.

“We’ve been a member of the BBB (Houston Better Business Bureau) for over 16 years, and we have an A+ rating,” said certified building professional (CBP) Mark Oberkirch. “We’re also a member of the APSP (Association of Pool and Spa Professionals).”

As a certified building professional, Oberkirch is in the minority: he is one of only 39 worldwide. The comprehensive education and training required to earn this title drives many builders away from becoming CBPs.

“It requires 150 hours of classwork and eight projects and tests,” said Oberkirch.

Earlier this year, Oberkirch also earned the certificate of the Society of Watershape Designers from Genesis 3 University.

Despite its name, Cypress Custom Pools’ services extend far beyond the construction of swimming pools. Oberkirch and his associates are capable of carrying out a wide range of projects.

“We build pools from the simple backyard pool to highly custom design projects,” said Oberkirch. “We build outdoor kitchens… and landscaping, and we can turnkey an entire project.”

For Oberkirch, the realization of a design, from the original consult to the turnkey project, creates a worthwhile experience.

“I really enjoy the design process,” said Oberkirch. “Every backyard is different; every client is different. [I like] seeing the project through from the initial design phase to the complete project.”

As a CBP, Oberkirch takes a special joy in doing what many pool designers and builders cannot. More complicated projects allow him the opportunity to flex his engineering and design muscles.

“I like technically challenging projects, things that other people can’t do,” said Oberkirch. “Projects that have engineering, special methods—those are more fun.”

Cypress Custom Pools builds more than 150 pools a year, from the initial design to the complete installation. Over the past 20 years, its professional team has collectively built over 1,700 pools. Now, because summertime is the peak season for leisure swimming, clients are eager to have pools installed as quickly as possible.

“This time of year is really about taking care of clients and getting the pools done,” said Oberkirch. “Right now, a lot of people are moving into the area. They want a swimming pool, and they want it fast.”

Many of Cypress Custom Pools’ new clients are or are related to Exxon-Mobil employees. The new Exxon-Mobil campus is bringing population growth to the community, which in turn has increased the demand for swimming pools.

Though increased demand may present its challenges, Oberkirch and his team laugh in the face of danger: they are determined to get the job done.

“There’s more work out there than there are people,” said Oberkirch. “But we get it done in a timely manner.”
