The Woodlands boys go 2-2 in Benchmark Bank Holiday Classic

Freas and Clay Creighton led a balanced Highlander (4-0) scoring attack with 10 points each. A.J. Bullard and Cameron Burkett both hit clutch free throws in the closing seconds of the game securing a hard fought victory against a very stubborn Tomball Memorial (1-4) squad.

Freshman sensation, Romello Wilbert and Burkett contributed eight points apiece as Bullard gathered seven.

Later on in the day, The Woodlands (4-1) suffered its first setback of the season to Mayde Creek (2-2), 77-70 spoiling a great effort by Cameron Burkett as he tallied 20 points to lead all Highlander scorers.

The lead shifted back and forth throughout the game and The Woodlands held a slight edge at 66-65 with just under three minutes of play remaining. The Rams then went ahead 70-66 on the strength of a Kalu Idika three pointer and a free throw by Demarco Enoch who led all scorers in the game with 30.

The Woodlands didn't back down as scrappy James Primavera knotted the contest at 70 with a lay up. Primavera's last tally were all the points The Woodlands would light up the scoreboard with as Mayde Creek scored seven unanswered points to close out the game at 77-70.

A.J Bullard and Jack Hammett scored eight and seven points respectively in the losing effort.

Day Two of the Benchmark Classic saw The Woodlands (4-2) take one on the chin to Austin Bowie in a low scoring affair, 43-35. Cameron Burkett and Carter Freas led TWHS scoring with eight points each.

A.J. Bullard went off for 15 points as The Woodlands (5-2) handled District 15-6A foe, Klein Collins 63-56 in their final game of the tournament. Romello Wilbert chipped in 11.

The Woodlands will play Klein Collins again on Tuesday at their place in a rare back to back high school basketball match up.

"The guys showed much improvement and we went 2-2 in a tough tournament. We did well but we've got a long ways to go,the potential is there," said Highlander head coach Dale Reed.

Cameron Burkett made the All-Tournament team for the Highlanders.
