THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Junior forward Cameron Burkett scored a career-high 34 points in leading The Woodlands Highlanders to a 65-47 district win over the Oak Ridge War Eagles at home Friday night.

Burkett hit seven three-point field goals for the game, as Oak Ridge’s man-to-man defense couldn’t slow him down.

“He (Burkett) played just awesome. He hit 100% of his shots in the first half, missed his first two shots in the second half, but that didn’t even phase him, he just kept coming,” said Highlanders Head Coach Dale Reed.

Oak Ridge (11-14, 0-5) didn’t have an answer for Burkett defensively, however the War Eagles continued to try to battle back. After trailing 20-12 after the first quarter, the War Eagles went on a 5-0 run after a Trevor Graham field goal, cutting the Highlander lead to 27-19 with 4:30 left in the second quarter.

The Woodlands (16-7, 3-1) would immediately answer with another Burkett three-pointer from the corner to put The Woodlands up 33-22 at the half.

The Highlanders continued to push the gas pedal, as The Woodlands got solid defensive contributions from Sophomore forward A.J. Bullard and Freshman guard Romello Wilbert, as The Woodlands forced 20 Oak Ridge turnovers.

"I don't think over the course of the game, we ever really got going," said War Eagles Head Coach Neil Laminack.

Darius Love led the way for Oak Ridge with 16 points.

The Woodlands will continue district play on Tuesday, traveling to Summer Creek, while Oak Ridge will have a bye on Tuesday and resume district play at home on Friday, January 23, at 7pm versus Summer Creek.
