THE WOODLANDS, Texas - College Park Lady Cavaliers furious fourth quarter rally fell just short in the waiting seconds of the game as Kingwood held off the Lady Cavs for a 52-42 district win at College Park Tuesday night.

“I’m very pleased with the way we fought back, we’re coming together, learning our roles, and playing together as a team,” said Lady Cavs Head Coach Michelle Richardson.

College Park (1-20, 0-6) trailed 45-25 with just under 7:00 left in the game, when the Lady Cavs went on a furious 17-4 run over the next few minutes to pull within 49-42 with just under a minute left.

Kingwood (20-7, 5-2) had a jump ball give them possession with 37 seconds remaining, along with crucial free throws to preserve the win.

The Lady Cavs took a 12-11 lead early on the second quarter on a three-point field goal by Sophomore Kristen Shaver. However Kingwood would respons with a 14-0 run to give the Lady Mustangs a 26-15 lead before Elaina Stribling’s three-pointer ended the run with just over 1:20 left in the second quarter.

Stribling and Haley Fitzpatrick led the way for the Lady Cavs, each scoring 13 points. Madison Brabham led Kingwood with a game-high 17 points.

The Lady Cavs turned up the defense in the second half limiting Kingwood to just 19 points in the second half.

“Being so young and being inexperienced in these situations, just proved that if they keep fighting, they can come back,” said Richardson.

The Lady Cavs will travel to face Conroe on Friday, January 23, at 7pm.
