Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital announces new leadership to executive team

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital has announced new leadership for its executive team. Christopher J. Langan, MD, MBA, FACEP has been named Regional Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Christine M. Lee, M.D. has been elected by her peers as Chief of Staff.

“Dr. Langan and Dr. Lee will be vital assets to our team in The Woodlands” said Josh Urban, CEO of Memorial Hermann The Woodlands. “They both bring immense knowledge of our System and that, combined with their dedication and commitment to quality care, will benefit our future growth overall.”

As Regional CMO, Dr. Langan will serve as a key member of the executive team and assist in achieving goals that will influence the future direction of Memorial Hermann. In addition to working with Louis Smith, CEO of Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital, and Dr. M. Michael Shabot, CMO of Memorial Hermann Health System, Dr. Langan will work closely with Urban at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands.

Prior to his CMO appointment, Dr. Langan served as a Regional Medical Director for TeamHealth where he assisted in providing Emergency Medicine staffing and management to eight Memorial Hermann hospitals and three free-standing emergency departments in the Houston area. Prior to his work with TeamHealth, Dr. Langan was the Medical Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, in Newark, New Jersey.

Dr. Langan received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and his MBA degree from the Columbia University School of Business. He earned his medical degree from the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine and served an internship at the New Jersey Medical School University Hospital. His residency in Emergency Medicine was served at the Mount Sinai Hospital/Elmhurst Hospital in New York. Dr. Langan is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.

Newly elected Chief of Staff Dr. Lee is a physician specialist affiliated with women’s cancer services at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands. In her new role, she will be responsible for ensuring the continuation of quality medical care throughout the hospital, while acting as a liaison between the medical staff and hospital employees/administration.

Dr. Lee specializes in a number of diseases and treatments including: da vinci ® robotic-assisted surgery, laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgery for gynecologic cancer, tumor debulking surgeries for ovarian cancer, minimally invasive pelvic and para-aortic lymph node dissections for cervical cancer and vulvar and vaginal cancers. With a particular interest in ovarian cancer at the molecular level, Dr. Lee was awarded an educational grant to investigate ovarian cancer and targeted gene therapy.

Dr. Lee graduated cum laude from Wellesley College. She received her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Dr. Lee completed a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. While at MD Anderson, Dr. Lee received a master’s in cancer biology from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School. Dr. Lee also is a member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a former Physician of the Year and is actively involved with the Memorial Hermann In the Pink of Health breast and ovarian cancer annual luncheon and committee.
