THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The John Cooper School volleyball team's fundraising efforts for breast cancer research ranked them the #3 high school in the country and #1 in Texas, according to the Side-Out Foundation/Dig Pink®. The team's fourth annual Dig Pink® event, held October 2014, raised more than $15,000, well over last year's donation.

The school-wide event features a week of pink-themed activities, culminating with varsity volleyball's "Dig Pink®" game. The team's fundraising efforts topped out at a 15,160.74 donation, just short of the #2 spot nationally, but it kept the Dragons in the #1 fundraising spot in Texas for the third consecutive year.

"Last year, we surpassed our goal and finished first in the state and second in the nation for dollars raised, so we set a fundraising goal of $10,000. The efforts and generosity of many individuals and organizations allowed us to not only achieve our goal but surpass it, by a huge margin to support this tremendous cause," said Mike Cooper, athletic director for The John Cooper School. "We're poised to raise the bar once again in October."

For the fourth year, the volleyball team paired with the Side-Out Foundation/Dig Pink® to raise money to help fight breast cancer during October, Breast Cancer Awareness month. The Side-Out Foundation is an organization that coordinates fundraising events for volleyball teams. Fundraising included T-shirt sales, donations and fun activities at the game and during the week. The team plans to sponsor the event again Oct. 9 during a volleyball game against Concordia Lutheran.
