HS Volleyball: John Cooper falls to The Woodlands Christian Academy at Home

THE WOODLANDS, TX – The John Cooper Dragons hosted The Woodlands Christian Academy Warriors in a non-district match up Wednesday night. With home court advantage, John Cooper hopes to hold off TWCA and increase their rankings in the TAPPS 5D District 5 standings.



The Warriors came out aggressive in the first set which gave them a quick lead early in the set. The Dragons struggled to keep the ball in play as the TWCA offense forced bad looks with precise kills and rallies. Cooper found themselves down 1-0 in the quick first set.

Cooper recovered in the second set by rallying mid-set to gain the lead 14-9 after going shot for shot with TWCA. They continued to increase their lead with a 7-0 run making the score 21-9. The Warriors didn’t back down and slowly chipped away at the lead but fell short 25-14.



With it all tied up both teams needed to increase the aggression to gain the advantage. In the third set, each team with shot for shot but The Woodlands Christian Academy pulled away mid-set winning a couple of rough rallies. They found holes in the Cooper defense and held a 11-17 lead as Senior Katie Holloway found her strength and chalked up a couple of kills. Although Cooper would give TWCA a good run, they would ultimately fall in the exciting third set.

Cooper looked strong going into the fourth set but TWCA would bring the aggression once again and not let up. Holloway would also find another streak and break through the Cooper defense. Cooper wasn’t out and gave it all until the end but TWCA would take the final set and the match 3-1.
