Family Medicine at Sterling Ridge expands, adds 3 practitioners

THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Raja Abusharr, MD, FAAFP, of Family Medicine at Sterling Ridge has recently expanded the practice with a second location and three additional healthcare practitioners after eight years.

In addition to the original Family Medicine at Sterling Ridge which opened in 2007 at 6886 Woodlands Parkway at the northwest corner of Lake Woodlands near the Sterling Ridge Shopping Center, a second location has opened at 10110 Woodlands Parkway, Suite 100, at Montfair, near FM 2978.

Family Medicine at Sterling Ridge advocates preventive medicine and is committed to providing conscientious, custom-tailored health care. The family-friendly practices offer the convenience of extended office hours for today’s busy families and working professionals. Treating patients of all ages, from pediatrics and adolescents to adults and geriatrics, healthcare services include newborn care, minor surgeries, well-woman exams, chronic disease management (such as diabetes, heart disease, hypertension), school and sports physicals, executive physicals, allergy testing, dermatology (biopsies and excisions), and treatment of mood disorders and depression.

The second location adds three new practitioners which include physician Veronica Bugenhagen, MD, nurse practitioner Ronia Khouri, APRN, FNP-C, and physician assistant Paul Reilley, MS, PA-C.

Dr. Veronica Bugenhagen earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston where she also served as a Research Associate in Cardiovascular Surgery and worked in collaboration with K. Lance Gould, MD, Professor of Medicine, performing various experimental and clinical studies examining coronary artery disease, PET imaging, and quantitative arteriography. She completed a residency in Family Practice at the University of Health Science Center Houston. Dr. Bugenhagen has been in private practice for over 15 years in The Woodlands/ Spring area. She and her husband have a twin girl and boy, and a 135-pound Bull Mastiff who is the love of their lives.

Ronia Khouri, APRN, FNP-C, Nurse Practitioner, started her journey into the medical field at the Prairie View A&M School of Nursing. At the same time she worked full time in many nursing disciplines including family medicine, pediatrics and woman's health. Upon completing her BSN degree, she ventured into the nursing field of labor and delivery at Memorial Hermann Hospital. Ronia quickly excelled in this field and soon decided to pursue a Masters Degree in Nursing (APRN). Now a Texas board-certified nurse Practitioner (FNP-C), she fulfills her life-long passion of helping others by providing world class medical care to her patients with love, compassion respect and empathy. Ronia and her husband are the proud parents of a three-year-old son.

Paul Reilley, MS, PA-C, Physician Assistant, brings 13 years of experience to the practice. He attended Texas A&M where he received a master’s degree in kinesiology and served as a graduate assistant baseball coach. After coaching football, baseball, basketball, and swimming for eight years, Paul spent two years as a Medical Assistant in family practice and driving an ambulance before attending Baylor College of Medicine. After completing his Physician Assistant degree, he worked at KSF Orthopedics for 11 years. He then took a position as Center Director for the Low T Center in The Woodlands. Paul has a strong interest in overall wellness for both men and women. He and his wife stay busy keeping up with their six children.

Dr. Raja Abusharr earned his medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences University and completed his residency in Family Medicine at Lancaster General Hospital in Pennsylvania. Board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, he serves on the medical staff at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands and CHI St. Luke’s Health - The Woodlands Hospital. In addition, he holds a teaching appointment as Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and enjoys mentoring medical students in his practice. Dr. Abusharr has two daughters and resides in The Woodlands.

Dr. Abusharr of Family Medicine at Sterling Ridge has been voted first place “Best of The Woodlands” for the “Best Doctor – Family Doctor” category by Woodlands Online in 2015 and 2013.

Family Medicine at Sterling Ridge is open six days a week, Monday through Saturday. The practice also features an in-office lab that can provide same-day results. It is affiliated with Memorial Herman The Woodlands, CHI St. Luke’s Health – The Woodlands Hospital, and Nexus Specialty Hospital.
