THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The team of Calvin Easterday and Brandon Boyd took home the Gold Medal from the recent Hometown Hoedown Cornament benefitting the continuing efforts of the Texas Sentinels Foundation.

Funds earmarked to help provide a Galena Park home for a wounded American hero

Co-chaired by Realtor Carol Knott of RE/MAX The Woodlands & Spring and Jeanne Toth, manager of relocation at The Woodlands Development Co., the event was a rousing success, selling out the 64-team Cornament while raising $16,000 to support the foundation and raise awareness in the area about the Texas Sentinels Foundation and the assistance it offers to wounded veterans.

“Several companies came together to support this worthwhile cause,” Knott said. “In addition to Jeanne and myself, Becky Vance of RE/MAX Hometown, Eric Depoy of Keller Williams, Brian Mathieson of Texas Sign Boss, and Bob Earl and Erin Ciaravino of Core Lending were instrumental in soliciting sponsors and teams. We chose cornhole as a fundraiser so anyone, young or old and with any skill level could participate. The event also offered families an opportunity to have fun while learning more about the soldiers the foundation benefits.”

“When planning an event like this you always have in your mind how you will be helping the cause, but I think the most rewarding part was actually seeing our wounded military heroes and their families having a great day and the community rallying around them,” said Toth. “This was just a small way for us to give back to those who have given so much.”

In addition to the cornhole competition, the Hometown Hoedown Cornament provided family-friendly fun in the form of a Kids’ Play Zone, provided by RE/MAX The Woodlands & Spring and Lonestar Parties. Rounding out the festivities were many local vendors and food trucks, as well as kettle corn and snow cones for the kids.

“The Cornament was a fun way to raise funds for and awareness of the Texas Sentinels Foundation,” said Danna Furnace-Grimes, director of agent services, relocation director at RE/MAX The Woodlands & Spring. “The foundation is one of many causes in the area that Carol champions, and we’re grateful for her support of such a worthy endeavor.”

The next Texas Sentinels Foundation fundraiser, Operation Tight Lines, is a saltwater fishing tournament scheduled for Aug. 22 at the Harborwalk Yacht Club in Hitchcock. For information on sponsoring the tournament or to register to participate, visit texassentinels.org.
