THE WOODLANDS, Texas — The College Park football team began their preseason practices this week bright and early at 6:30 a.m.

Head Coach Richard Carson said one of his primary goals is to keep his team healthy and end practice with the same athletes at the beginning of practice. After spending all summer working on a strength and conditioning program, the athletes jumped right into football practice.

“Over the years when I first began, we could just have an open weight room. We weren’t able to work with our kids in the summer,” Carson said. “When they came back for football, you had to work harder for getting them in shape. Now, most of our kids have been showing up in shape because they’ve been working all summer with us. You spend less time doing that and more time doing football.”

Right now, Carson said they’re installing their offense and defense and working on just getting better. He said the team is excited and ready to get the ball rolling for their 2015 season.

“They’re fired up, excited,” Carson said. “Sometimes it’s hard to be too fired up at 6:30 in the morning when you’re on the field. They like it. We’ve had a great turnout and a great effort by our kids.”

The College Park varsity football team competes in their first scrimmage against Clear Brook High School August 14 at 7:00 p.m.
