College Park sweeps Memorial 3-0, prepares for rival, homecoming match against The Woodlands
THE WOODLANDS, Texas — The Lady Cavaliers swept the Memorial High School Mustangs 25-14, 25-18, 25-17 in their match Tuesday night.

College Park started with a strong momentum their first two sets, lead by Kennedi Smith with 17 kills and three aces. Their third set Memorial pushed back and the teams played the set neck and neck.
“I do think [Memorial] came out with a little more momentum in the third set, and I think we kind of let up after the first two sets,” Head Coach Candice Collins said. “I think we lost our focus when we should have really stayed on them, and that’s something we need to work on.”
The Lady Cavaliers pushed back and won their third and final set of the match 25-17. Collins said she’s proud of the way the way the girls have played this season, but she’s still nervous about the matches to come.
“I think that we’ve done really good,” Collins said. “I feel like though every time we feel comfortable something happens. Somebody gets sick, so I don’t want to say that I feel good about going into the next couple of weeks, but it’s just one of those things where you have to roll with the punches, step up when we need them, play different positions, and that’s what we need to do.”
College Park will face The Woodlands, their hometown rival, Friday, September 18 at 4:30 p.m. for their homecoming game. Collins said the time is a little out of routine for the girls and that she hopes for a focused match despite all of the variables.
“The only thing we can do is control ourselves,” Collins said. “You’re hopeful that they stay focused and that they’re taking care of themselves this week and that they’re not too tired or too wrapped up in the homecoming activities, but that they are focused at the task at hand. The thing that we tell the girls is we’ve got to take care of each other and our team first, and then everything will fall into place.”
