The first half was a neck-and-neck battle between the the Cavaliers and the War Eagles, with the War Eagles senior Josh Williams putting the first points on the board. College Park would later respond with a touchdown of their own from Jordan Turnquest. A blocked punt by College Park later in the second quarter would result in a field goal for the Cavaliers. Braden Letney responded with a short 6 yard touchdown pass to Lamar Handy and Oak Ridge was again in the lead 14-10. College Park would not give up, though, and Turnquest ran a 19 yard touchdown in with 1:13 left to play in the half. Oak Ridge's Chandler Smith responded with a touchdown of his own, and at the end of the second quarter, Oak Ridge led College Park 21-17.

A safety at the beginning of the third quarter and two interceptions by Kaleb Taylor changed the course of the game.

“We did a lot of good things in the first half, but we did some things uncharacteristic of us and were undisciplined and hurt ourselves,” College Park Head Coach Richard Carson said. “We fixed that with the second half. In the second half our quarterback made some plays, and our offensive line was great.”

With a few injuries on the field, the team had to shuffle around their offense with junior offensive lineman, Javi Solano, stepping up at center.

“We started a kid at center, Javi Solano, who started off on the JV,” Carson said. “Those were his first varsity snaps tonight, and I’m so proud of him I can’t stand it.”

With the Cavaliers’ second win of the season and first in district in the books, Carson said the team is looking to take big steps forward in the remainder of their district matches.

“Our goal is to keep going and to get on a roll. We’ve got work to do,” Carson said. “We’re going to enjoy this, but we’ve got a short week next week with Summer Creek. We’ve just got to get focused and ready to go.”

College Park will play against Summer Creek at Turner Stadium Thursday, October 22 at 7 p.m.
