SHENANDOAH, Texas — The College Park Cavaliers had their first defeat after two sweet victories in a row in their season as they played Kingwood in their second to last match of the regular season.

With 15 mph winds and gusts, the teams spent the entirety of the first quarter in Cavalier territory. Kingwood took advantage of the weather conditions and put the first score on the board with a touchdown.

Things turned up for the Cavaliers as they ended the first quarter with an 11-yard run by AJ Sanders and began the second quarter with a fumble recovery by Connor Kidd for a College Park first down. However, they did not capitalize on the recovery, and Kingwood intercepted the ball with a 20-yard return for a touchdown, bringing them to a 14-0 lead over College Park.

Defense picked up their game in the second half and gave College Park several opportunities to come back, including a 23-yard return on an interception caught by Kaleb Taylor. This was his third interception of the season. The defensive victories were to no avail and the Cavaliers were shut out 21-0.

“Hats off to [Kingwood]. They did a great job,” Head Coach Richard Carson said. “Our defense played good, but we stopped it up on offense and that’s my fault. We’re in the playoffs. We know what we’ve got to go do, but we’re going to go play this week and get better and get us ready for that next season.”

College Park celebrated wins their last two matches against Oak Ridge and Summer Creek, giving them an opportunity for a spot in the playoffs. The Cavaliers will end their regular season against Conroe at Moorhead Stadium Friday, November 6 at 7 p.m.

“I don’t feel good about tonight, but what I do feel good about is our guys are resilient,” Carson said. “We’ve dealt with defeat and bounced back from it, so that’s the plan this week.”
