MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - The Department of Public Safety, in an initiative referred to as the Pre-Holiday Blitz, will be out in force during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend an throughout the rest of the holiday season, for the safety of the community.

An increase in patrol units, made possible through a grant funded by the Texas Department of Transportation, will put more state, county, and local patrol units on the streets. The program is intended to reduce the 25 percent increase in DWI arrests typical of holiday weekends. If arrested for a DWI, charges can range from a misdemeanor to a felony charge; previous convictions will be taken into account.

“We know that driving while intoxicated is one of the top number one reasons for fatalities in the United States,” said Trooper Erik Burse, the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Safety Education and Public Information Officer.

Trooper Burse shares the ramifications of driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, in this PSA on Driving While Intoxicated video.

In addition to the DPS, other participating local law enforcement agencies include (alphabetical order):

Conroe Police Department
Magnolia Police Department
Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office
Precinct 4 Constable’s Office
Roman Forest Police Department
Splendora Police Department
Supporting law enforcement officers, judges, prosecutors and investigators, will work peak DWI hours Friday through Sunday, November 27 - 29. The increased patrols will continue weekends through the New Year weekend.
