THE WOODLANDS, Texas — With an all-time low interest rate on home equity loans, Melanie King Designs encourages residents to utilize Interior Design services to reinvest in their homes. Owner and designer Melanie King said she works with clients to create budgets, estimate the cost of remodeling a home, and understand the value it adds to their property.

“The Woodlands is nearly built out, giving homeowners little options for new construction. Many of our clients are seeing the opportunities in remodeling and reinvesting into their current homes,” King said. “We work with any budget and try to see how we can add value to each space.”

King started her interior design firm almost 15 years ago with a mission to open people’s eyes to the transformation a solid design can affect the way one lives in a space. The redesigning process begins with gaining an understanding of the client’s vision.

“People have a broad scope of ideas when deciding on a remodel or redesign project,” King said. “We ask new clients to do a bit of homework and look at online websites such as Houzz, as well as, our portfolio to help communicate their style and concepts.”

By doing so, the project starts with a clear understanding of the clients needs. King works to develop a custom-tailored design that keeps her clients engaged in the process and manages the process from initial concept to installation.

Her background in business brings a high level of expertise to the design firm. Prior to her career as an interior designer, King worked for Enron in the Analyst/Associate program. Working abroad in Argentina gave her exposure to centuries old architecture and local textiles. Later, she was introduced to design by working with architects on the companies second building project and found herself energized by the role she played in incorporating the new space for the company.

“I was intrigued not only by how people interact in their environments, but also by the use of space and the vast amount of materials utilized to create the overall space” King said. “The light went on, and I knew this was something I had to pursue.”

King thrives on learning about other cultures, trends, and styles. Her travels abroad have exposed her to a variety of elements and experiences which often find their way into her design palette.

“I believe you have to push yourself past your own horizons to truly understand how others live, work, and play. The more you learn about the world, the more you can incorporate that back into design and thought,” King said. “People—especially in The Woodlands—are so transient. They come from all over, so it’s nice to be able to incorporate their cultures and styles into their spaces."

Not limited to home design, King has worked on several commercial and development projects in the area. Once a project is complete, King said she likes to visit and take in how the public interacts with the new space.

“You see tangible evidence of your design in a very large way. Seeing the end result and how people are working and using the space is a great reward,” King said. “I really love that at the end of the day, no matter what the project is, I get to directly affect the way people connect with their environment.”

Melanie King Designs prides itself in its approachability, business practices and a proven design process. King has a passion for exposing clients to new ideas and pushing their limits to deliver unique products.

“I think that people have an emotional and physical connection to the spaces they live or work in. Exposing clients to the possibilities we can curate allows them to be creative and energized, which is why I love design.”
