Conroe ISD recognize The Woodlands High School Cross Country State Champions

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The Conroe Independent School District Board of Trustees gave special recognition to the 2016 UIL 6A Boys’ Cross Country State Champions from The Woodlands High School at a recent board meeting.

The Woodlands High School Cross Country Team had a great season which culminated in winning the school’s 19th state championship. The team claimed their second consecutive Class 6A State Championship in Round Rock, TX, on Saturday, November 12, 2016.

The Woodlands High School Principal Gregg Colschen introduced Coach Juris Green who presented Assistant Coach Chris Bails and the team to the Board. Team members include: William Hunsdale, Gavin Hoffpauir, Noah Wells, Daniel Baker, Jacob Raiford, Ethan Mercado, and Michael Childree.

Trustee Scott Moore presented in the team with a plaque in honor of their accomplishment.

During his presentation, Mr. Moore remarked, “To accomplish 19 state championships in just under four decades, that’s absolutely amazing. Where ever we go in the state, wherever we go in the nation, people know The Woodlands High School Cross Country. The effort that you put in to this both in your studies and in your athletic endeavors is a shining example to the other students and the other student athletes in this District.”

Also in attendance at the Board Meeting was the former head coach of The Woodlands High School Cross Country Team, Dan Green, father of current coach, Juris Green. Under his leadership, the team won 15 of their 19 state championships. During the tenure of the current Coach Green, the team has won 4 to date.
