THE WOODLANDS, TX With summer officially over, many residents will take advantage of the cooler weather and spend more time outdoors. While it's common knowledge that mosquitoes are active during the summer months, the flying pests can continue to carry and transmit disease well into the fall season. Mosquitoes that spread West Nile virus are active as long as the evening temperatures remain above 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack is maintaining his office's mosquito abatement programl recently, 57 additional treatments have been performed throughout The Woodlands and only two remain.

"It is important to remain vigilant against mosquitoes and the diseases they carry during the fall by continuing to find and eliminate mosquito-breeding sites, using insect repellent, and avoiding outdoor activity while mosquito spraying is taking place," said Noack in a statement. "In fact, disease-carrying mosquitoes have been found to be active as late in the year as Halloween. While Precinct 3 crews don’t spray on Halloween night, treatments can be performed any other night that week so be sure to check the Mosquito Control website to see if any treatments are scheduled for your area."
