VARSITY SOFTBALL

3/1-2 vs. Legacy School of Sports • 7-6 W

Coach Nicole Hedden: The Dragons had a 7-6 walk-off victory over Legacy SSS. Daniela Villarreal had three hits including a triple in the first inning, a double in the third, and a single in the fourth. The Dragons were in the lead at the bottom of the third thanks to two walks. Then in the fourth inning, Leah Ruckman singled to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Bailey Jackson hit the backside to give Cooper a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Right-handed Dragon pitcher Cameron Patterson struck out 19. Ruckman drove the middle of the lineup, leading with two runs batted in. Sydney Kelly collected two hits, Gauri Ghosh paced with three walks and Zuri Bryson stole two bases. Overall, the team scored seven walks for the game and accumulated four stolen bases.

This was a team effort. The greatest thing for a coach is teaching them a skill and watching them succeed in a game with that skill. We saw a lot of this in this game. I also loved watching the girls come together as a team.
