THE WOODLANDS, TX – Texas Litter Control has received a $50,000 adoption collaboration grant from PetSmart Charities to help prepare more pets in Montgomery County for adoption. Some four million pets find themselves in U.S. shelters each year. In partnership with PetSmart Charities, SMART Rescue, Texas Animal Society, eRescue Houston, Wags to Whiskers, and Clipped Ear Cat Sanctuary, and Texas Litter Control will bring adoptable pets to local PetSmart locations in support of National Adoption Week, taking place March 18 - 24, 2024.

Funding from this grant is used to prep animals for adoption. The partnership between Texas Litter Control (a non-profit Veterinary Clinic) and the five rescue organizations allows the groups to vet more animals for less money. It is less money because TLC can vet the animals at a much lower cost than a full-service veterinary and PetSmart subsidizes these costs! Funding will be used to the maximum potential as TLC provides “at cost” services to these groups. TLC also spends a lot of time training groups to perform much of their own vetting.

“I really enjoyed writing this grant application. It is always so interesting to see how everyone is growing and coming together. Collaboration has always been an issue for Houston rescues,” said Deana Love, Executive Director and Founder of Texas Litter Control. “No one rescue organization is going to solve our problems.”

“Shelters across the U.S. are struggling to keep pace with the number of animals coming in and need support from their communities to bring pets and people together,” said Heidi Marston, director of pet placement at PetSmart Charities. “We’re proud to support Texas Litter Control, SMART Rescue, eRescue Houston, Texas Animal Society, Clipped Ear Cat Sanctuary, and Wags to Whiskers and the essential work they all do to care and advocate for the animals that come through their door in need of loving families. Please consider supporting their lifesaving work through volunteering, fostering, adopting, or by making a donation.”

PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week is a special time during the year. PetSmart stores feature adoptable pets to meet and cuddle in spacious areas, and staff and volunteers are on-hand to make introductions and answer questions. Potential pet parents can also learn about the products and services they’ll need for the best possible start with their new family members.
