HS Track & Field: Teams Give It Their All at the 13-6A Meet

CONROE, TX -- The schools of District 13-6A gathered at Conroe High School to participate in the District Championship Meet ahead of Areas.

The preliminaries for track events and the overall competitions for field events were held on Tuesday evening. All field competitors gave their best effort in their events, and the finals showed who separated themselves from the rest of the pack on their path to the Area Meet.

With their field schoolmates doing their parts, the track participants readied themselves to finish their runs on Thursday. The heat of an unbroken sun failed to slow down the competitors in their blistering attempts to outpace their opponents on the track.

In an exclusive interview with The Woodlands Online Sports, the victorious Lady Tigers relay team spoke on their win following the medal ceremony.

“It feels like a big accomplishment,” said Alisa Sneed. “I just got put into this relay, and I felt like I had to do my part for my team and help them any way I could.”

“It comes down to teamwork,” said MaLeah Herring. “Communication plays a part, and we are always there for each other to make a great support system.”

“With everyone being around and our competitors too, it pushes us to go faster and work harder,” said Ladonna Brown. “We kept away from any negativity and believed in ourselves.”

“It’ll be nice to get some more practice in ahead of area,” said Damiri Anderson. “We just need to do our best when we practice.”

In another exclusive interview, Heath Grant broke down the keys to his victory, where he controlled the field from the start of the race to its finish.

“I just had to get out as fast as possible,” said Grant. “Then my last lap is where I try to speed up, but sometimes I can’t. So I just try to hold them off.”

In an exclusive interview with The Woodlands Online Sports, Perry Watkins laid out the competitive edge that allowed him to take home a first-place finish in the ultra-competitive event.

“What gives me a competitive edge is my start,” said Watkins. “I like to get out fast and hit my top speed as soon as possible.”

“We work hard every day,” added Watkins. “We make sure to practice hard and fuel ourselves with the right stuff.”

In an exclusive interview with The Woodlands Online Sports, Grace Kowalski sang the praises of those who have helped her succeed at the highest level possible.

“I have to give it all to my parents,” said a gracious Kowalski. “I wouldn’t be here without my parents today and my dad, who has helped me so much.”

“My coaches have also been there emotionally for the last four years,” continued Kowalski. “All of my great races, all my terrible races, and they’ve made me feel good regardless.”
