LSC-Montgomery Presents “Bridges/Mosty”

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Lone Star College-Montgomery's Center for the Arts presents the artwork of Nick J. de Vries with an exhibit titled “Bridges/Mosty” on display March 8 through April 1. There will be an opening reception with refreshments on Monday, March 8, from 12-2 p.m. in the Mary Matteson-Parrish Art Gallery (building D).

A Houston artist and professor in humanities and fine arts at the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL), de Vries’ creative work is abstract ceramic sculptures. During his graduate years he became fascinated with the art of Raku, which is one of his areas of study, teaching, and practice.

Robby Wood, interim chair of LSC-Montgomery's art department, is excited to have de Vries’ work on campus.

"The upcoming exhibition ‘Bridges/Mosty’ (from the series “Frisian Horses”) consists of abstract ceramic sculpture,” said Wood. “Professor de Vries has exhibited and taught internationally. He will discuss his work and techniques in detail at the opening reception.” de Vries was a Senior Fulbright Scholar at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Bratislava in 1995. Since that time he has established a student exchange program and has invited numerous faculty members to UHCL as visiting professors. de Vries has recently conducted a three-week workshop at the academy and returned for an exhibition at the American Embassy in Bratislava, Slovak Republic.

de Vries holds a master’s degree in fine arts from the University of Oklahoma. He has received numerous honors including the University of Houston-Clear Lake Faculty Fellowship.
