THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Victory continues to be just out of reach in District 14-5A play for the College Park High School girls’ basketball team. The Lady Cavs fell 47-34 to Conroe on Wednesday in a game originally scheduled for Tuesday but postponed by cold weather and icy conditions.

College Park, still looking for its first district win, kept it close through eight minutes. But a 13-3 second-quarter run gave the Tigerettes a 23-11 lead late in the first half.

Conroe (3-8) built its lead to 38-22 after three quarters before College Park made a run, cutting the margin to 10 points at 42-32 with just over three minutes remaining.

However, the Lady Cavs could get no closer.

Cami Shafter helped lead the late surge, scoring seven of her team-high 11 points in the fourth quarter. Katie Gunther also played a role, scoring five of her 10 points in the final period.

Meya Hadnot finished with four points while Kelsey Shafer and Valerie DiGuilio added three points each. Both Candace Goady and Haley Fitzpatrick scored two points while Claire Salander added one point.

The Lady Cavs visit A&M Consolidated on Friday before closing the season at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, when they host Lufkin.
