THE WOODLANDS, Texas--Since August of last year, The Mann Eye Institute and Laser Center at The Woodlands Market Street has been bringing quality eye care to patients in the growing Houston suburb.

Jennifer Melton, MD, has been with Mann Eye Institute since December 2012. Dr. Melton is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and specializes in the treatment of corneal disease and performs cataract and refractive surgeries. Originally from Louisiana, Dr. Melton attended The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston where she was Chief Resident of Ophthalmology. After living in San Diego, California for a fellowship in cornea and refraction surgery, Dr. Melton is back in the great state of Texas as a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist at Mann Eye Institute and Laser Center.

At The Woodlands location, Dr. Melton most often performs the Blade-Free LASIK procedure, a refractive surgery that enhances vision by treating nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. The surgery consists of lifting the corneal flap, treating the surface of the eye with a laser, and then putting the flap back in place. At Mann Eye Institute, LASIK is performed without the use of blades, giving patients increased predictability and visual outcomes. After undergoing the low-risk LASIK procedure, patients generally have better vision that very same day, and will definitely see results the day after with tremendous benefits to a patient’s lifestyle.

“The laser room is attached to the clinic so it makes it really easy to do at this location in The Woodlands,” said Dr. Melton. “It is not something that interferes with your life. If we do the surgery on a Thursday or a Friday, you can absolutely be back at work on Monday.”

Dr. Melton also performs cataract surgery on patients who are experiencing cloudy vision, losing color perception or having trouble seeing at night. Cataracts are a natural part of maturing that causes the lens of the eye to grow cloudier over time. Cataract surgery is the most common surgery in The United States and only takes about 15 minutes. Dr. Melton performs the procedure at the Mann Eye Institutes of Humble and Downtown Houston.

“Everybody gets cataracts, but we don’t just remove cataracts because you have them,” said Dr. Melton. “We remove them when they start really affecting your vision. It is an extremely successful procedure, and the patients can walk out 20 minutes later.”
