THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The Howard Hughes Corporation (NYSE:HHC) and its wholly-owned subsidiary, The Woodlands Development Company announced today that Houston Methodist has purchased a 57-acre tract in The Woodlands for construction of a 193-bed hospital. It will be the fourth major medical campus in The Woodlands, along with Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital, St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital, which is scheduled to open in 2017.

Houston Methodist is set to open in The Woodlands in 2017.

“We are pleased to have a renowned and respected health care system like Houston Methodist add a major hospital campus to the growing medical community in The Woodlands,” said Paul Layne, Executive Vice President of Master Planned Communities for The Howard Hughes Corporation. “The Woodlands is rapidly becoming the regional healthcare hub for the North Houston area.”

Groundbreaking on the new 470,000 square-foot hospital in The Woodlands, which will be constructed just south of the intersection of I-45 and State Highway 242, is expected in early 2015, with the hospital opening planned for 2017. The $328 million campus will be modeled after Houston Methodist West Hospital near Katy. The campus will also include a 135,000 square-foot medical building, scheduled to open in late 2015.

“Houston Methodist has served the greater Houston community for almost 100 years,” said Marc Boom, M.D., President and CEO of Houston Methodist. “We are excited to bring our long history of leading medicine and excellent patient care to the residents of The Woodlands.”

The new hospital will be the eighth in the Houston Methodist system, and will offer The Woodlands community a full service, acute care hospital capable of delivering services similar to what is available in the Texas Medical Center.

Houston Methodist is planning to invest more than $1 billion into expanding and replacing existing facilities throughout the Houston area over the next three years. For more information about Houston Methodist’s expansion plans, visit the link provided below.
