THE WOODLANDS, Texas – When The Woodlands Children’s Museum needed new computers for its robotics program, Anadarko Petroleum Corporation jumped at the opportunity to help.

Mike Rohm, manager of IT administration, and Kimberly Lacayo, director of communications and graphics, coordinated the donation of seven laptops last month.

Rohm then visited the museum this month with Deandra Chebul with communications and graphics, to see the computers in use in the museum’s Lego Robotiks class.

“The donated laptops help us keep our pre-engineering robotics program at the forefront of technology,” Angela Colton, executive director of The Woodlands Children’s Museum, said. “We needed more powerful computers so we could take advantage of the latest software update in our classrooms.”

She said that with the new laptops, the robotics program will continue to develop and grow.

“Our science education program builds skills in students enrolled in our after-school and summer programs,” Colton said. “It’s also a great enrichment option for home-schooled students.”

The museum’s fall and spring workshops serve children as young as 2 and 3 years old with grown-up participation. Other workshops are offered for ages 4 to 10 years old. The workshops are offered year –round.

“We recognize the need to continually improve and meet the demand of science and keep up with technological developments,” Colton said. “Anadarko’s gift will help us reach our goal of offering new and improved science programs.”

She explained that the museum reached out to Anadarko because of the company’s spirit of volunteerism and dedication to the community.

“Having Anadarko’s help and support makes it possible for the museum to pursue our mission of educating and empowering children,” Colton said. “The company’s generosity and interest in the museum’s work will directly have a positive impact on children in our community.”
