THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Twenty-five teams vied for bragging rights at the 3rd annual EfTA Trivia Night competition, in what has become one of the most popular community fundraisers. Nothing is more fun than the opportunity to say you’re smarter than your neighbors. The grand prize...a complimentary seat at the big table at next year’s trivia competition. The winner gets to come back and defend their title free gratis.

Hosted again by the John Cooper School, competitors were treated to a buffet provided by Pit Master BBQ and La Bakina, in addition to wine and assorted beverages, all for what they would typically spend on a Friday night on the town, minus the fun and camaraderie of 200 neighbors. A raffle and a silent auction rounded out the evening’s festivities.

“We have a bigger turnout this year,” said Efta Program Director, Elaine Christian. "It gets bigger every year.”

EfTa President, Monica Bombkamp Enia, echoed Christian’s comments.

“Last year we sold about as many tables but they were smaller teams; many of the tables were only half full,” said Bombkamp Enia. “This year the tables are full. So we have a bigger crowd.”

Back by popular demand. former State Representative, Rob Eissler, emceed the competition, as well as entertained with anecdotes, quips, and jokes.

The 8-player teams competed in eight rounds of trivia covering the following topics:

Lions, Tigers & Bears

Ad Wizards

Stem & Beyond (Science)

Heads of State

Name that cereal

Sports & Leisure

Show Tunes

Silver Anniversary (25 years ago)

After eight challenging rounds of ten questions each, Team #10, named “Perfect 10,” representing Interfaith of The Woodlands, took top honors, successfully defending their title as the 3-peat champions. Second place went to team #12, “½ a Dirty Dozen,” a local trivia competition team, and third place was last year’s second place winner, team #20, “Will Power”...Missy Herndon and friends. The team with the winning name was Consolidated Communications’ team, the “Quizzly Bears.”

If you have a vast storehouse of knowledge that you’d like to unleash, if you want to impress the community that you know more than the rest of the neighborhood, and if you get a smug sense of satisfaction walking away with a 3” plastic loving cup, then the EfTA Trivia Night fundraiser is ideally suited for you. But if you aren’t the sharpest tool in the shed, but want to help school children in the community with innovative enrichment programs focused on science, technology, and career preparation, put a team together and start prepping for next year’s competition. Watch Jeopardy, Cash Cab, and read the Encyclopedia Britannica, because there’s no way to predict what questions will be asked next year to stump the trivia buffs.
