THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Grab your fishing poles this Labor Day Weekend! On Saturday, September 5, The Woodlands Kiwanis 32nd Annual Kids Fishing Tournament will be held at Creekwood Park, where toddlers and kids up to 16-years-old will be able to catch and release fish from 8-10am.

Registration begins on the morning of the tournament at 7am. It is recommended to get to the event sooner than later in order to find a prime fishing spot. The whole family is invited for a fun-filled day of fishing that includes free food and drinks, free bait, a free T-shirt and trophies for all of the participants! All you need to bring is your favorite rod and reel, some lawn chairs, and bug spray.

“Our goal for the event is to provide an opportunity where kids, families and friends can have fun and build memories that occur around the sport of fishing,” said tournament director, John Haynes. “This will be the 32nd year for the tournament that was originally started by The Woodlands Bass Club who continues to be involved. In recent years, the tradition has been carried on by The Woodlands Kiwanis Club along with many volunteers.”

Approximately 175 to 225 participants are expected this Saturday, and although everyone might not catch a fish, there will still be plenty of fun to go around. Haynes was even sure to note that the same kids year after year keep coming back to the Kids Fishing Tournament.

“Kiwanis is a global organization with a focus on serving children, and while we have had an impact worldwide in helping to reduce iodine deficiency and neonatal tetanus in children, this event is to have fun and we hope the kids have as much fun as we do,” explained Haynes. “Seeing people having fun and building relationships and memories is my motivation to be part of this event.”

Along with The Woodlands Kiwanis Club and The Woodlands Bass Club, many local groups and volunteers help make the Kids Fishing Tournament possible, including The Woodlands Noon Kiwanis Club, and high school Key Clubs from The Woodlands, Oak Ridge, Wunsche and Klein Collins.

“We appreciate the continued support of our community and especially The Woodlands Parks and Rec for providing the venue and the fish,” said Haynes.

Creekwood Park is located at 3383 S. Panther Creek Drive. For more information about the fishing tournament this weekend, visit the link provided below.
