THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Okay...not to brag but when it comes to grilled cheese sandwich artistry, I rank myself right up there with the best of 'em. Need proof? I recently turned my leftover lasagna into a grilled cheese...and yeah, it was amazing. So when I heard the Blue Mug Cafe had something special on their menu related to my all-time favorite sandwich, I had to see it for myself. Rumors swirled around me about a sandwich piled high with angus-certified beef pot roast slowly cooked in in a house-made apricot bbq sauce with a nice sharp cheddar all on rustic sourdough bread. I was so giddy in fact, that I showed up at 10am. As we sandwich-lovers like to say, "It's lunch o'clock somewhere."

Walking in I mentioned it was my first time in and the friendly girl behind the register reached for a menu. I waved her off, "No need, I've done my homework. I'm here for the pot roast grilled cheese."

She smiled and said it was her favorite. But I'm a professional, so I knew that the actual proof would be in the sourdough itself. When the sandwich arrived I pushed away from the table in surprise...and a little fear. "Did I order this Family Style?" It was huge! As I marveled at this epic feast on two slices of bread, I nodded, "Guess it's true that everything's bigger in Texas."

WARNING! You are going to need a LOT of napkins. Bringing your own roll of Bounty paper towels is not frowned upon. In fact, I'll be wearing a full paper towel suit on my next trip.

Back to the sandwich. The pot roast reminded me of Sunday dinner at my grandma's. Comfort food at its finest. The sharp cheddar was the perfect pairing for this lunch classic and the rustic sourdough bread was just the right amount of crunch and flakiness. And don't order this expecting a ton of cheese. It's mostly Pot Roast. Delicious pot roast. This is a sandwich that knows its strength and puts it front and center!

By the way, if you're still reading this and are not already at the Blue Mug Cafe or on your way, share my recommendation with friends and family. It's the right thing to do and a hearty way to do it!
