CONROE, Texas – Montgomery County Food Bank (MCFB) would like to welcome two new members to their staff of dedicated individuals with the like-minded goal of ending hunger in Montgomery County.

Ashleigh McHenry has been hired as the Marketing and Communications Coordinator and Julia Cudd has been hired as the SNAP-Ed Coordinator. McHenry will be taking on the challenge of increasing brand awareness, engaging new and returning volunteers and increasing donor revenue for Montgomery County Food Bank through all marketing and communication efforts including print, digital, terrestrial media and through various events in the community.

“After a career in for-profit media, I knew it was time to take on a new challenge in the non-profit realm where I felt I could make more of a difference,” said McHenry, a veteran of television, print and predominantly radio for the last sixteen years. “For a long time, I worked for organizations that had charitable events, but not where it was their primary focus. To come to work each day and know that I am contributing is invaluable and motivating.”

Cudd joined MCFB as the SNAP-Ed Coordinator which works closely with the other departments of MCFB and Feeding Texas in promoting healthy eating throughout Montgomery County. With a degree in Food Science and Nutrition from Sam Houston State University and over six years of experience in child development, Julia has a strong passion for helping our community through food education by sharing healthy cooking strategies, shopping on a budget and specific approaches to child, pregnancy and adult nutrition.

Cudd said, of her new position, “I look forward to connecting with various agencies, schools, churches and many more organizations in our area. I can’t wait to get out into the community for nutrition classes and cooking demos to help fight the weight epidemic affecting 70% of our residents among other goals.”

In addition to these new hires, many new opportunities for volunteers, donors and sponsors are or will be available this Summer and into the Fall at MCFB. For more information, visit www.mcfoodbank.org. Created by a group of volunteers in 1985 to serve disadvantaged families in Montgomery County, MCFB distributed nearly 8.1 million pounds of food which represents 6.75 million meals in 2015 to those in need. As the county has grown, so has the need for the MCFB’s assistance.

At conception MCFB was a door-to-door operation run out of car trunks. They now distribute more than 6.6 million meals to more than 35,000 unduplicated low-income children, adults and seniors per year and works with 52 partner agencies throughout the county from its warehouse off of Texas 242, north of The Woodlands. MCFB is 501(c)(3) chartered by the state of Texas and is a member of the Texas Food Bank Network and Feeding America.
