Angel Run in Woodforest raises $13,000 for local scholarships

THE WOODLANDS, Texas — It was a record-breaking year for the 2016 Angel Run in Woodforest, as approximately 350 competitors raised nearly $13,000 for local scholarships.

The commemorative fundraiser has attracted roughly 300-500 racers each year since its inception in 2012. Including this year, the race has raised more than $30,000 for scholarships in Montgomery County.

“It is so inspiring to see how the race has grown over the years,” said Andrea Terna, one of the race organizers. “This year’s Angel Run was bigger than ever, not just in terms of money raised — which was amazing — but in the support the community, and Woodforest in particular, have shown for it.”

The race winds through the top-selling community, which also serves as the location of an after-party for participants and their supporters. Awards were given to the top three male and female finishers in each category.

The Angel Run commemorates the memory of sisters Kelsey Knepprath and Sara Hartnett. Knepprath passed away suddenly in 2012 after being diagnosed with the flu two days prior to her death. Hartnett, a 17-year-old Montgomery High School senior, died in a head-on collision in 2008 after losing control of her car in the rain.
