THE WOODLANDS - Eighth graders Avery Nakahara and Caroline Muhith and seventh graders James Donald, Nancy Lee, Amara Oguchi and Kirthi Chandra represented The John Cooper School at the Texas Art Educators Association Jr. Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) that was held on May 14 in College Station.

Cooper submitted 11 entries in the regional competition (out of 119 total) and were awarded 10 Superior ratings and one Excellent rating, based on the combined points of their artwork and an interview with judges.

Of the 80 works receiving a Superior rating, a total of eight were awarded Silver Medals. Avery Nakahara's jewelry piece and Nancy Lee's drawing were both awarded Silver Medals.

The mission of the TAEA Visual Arts Scholastic Event is to recognize exemplary student achievement in the visual arts by providing art students and programs a standard of excellence in which to achieve.

The John Cooper School is an independent, college preparatory school for students in Pre-K through Grade 12.
