One person’s trash is another artist’s treasure at Lone Star College-Montgomery art exhibit

CONROE, Texas – See trash and everyday objects transformed into unexpected sculptures at Lone Star College-Montgomery’s first art exhibit of the fall semester. “Labor of Love” by Claire Cusack will be on display Monday, Aug. 29 through Friday, Sept. 23 at the Mary Matteson-Parish Art Gallery, including a closing reception Thursday, Sept. 22 at noon. The exhibition and closing reception are open to the public and free to attend.

“Many of the discarded objects I find have individual voices,” said Cusack. “These voices speak to me and guide the unusual pairing and complex assemblages to make a story."

Cusack gives new life to discarded items you might find on the side of the road. Her work stands out because she uses furniture-making techniques to ensure parts are fit together, minimizing the use of glue and other fixatives.

The Mary Matteson-Parrish Art Gallery is open Monday – Friday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and is located on the first floor of Building D.
