FOOTBALL: Highlanders take first at-home victory 36-7 against Spring

SHENANDOAH, Texas — The Woodlands Highlanders had their first home victory of the season as they defeated the Spring Lions 36-7.

The Highlanders got off to a slow start, but senior running back Jordan Talford took the first touchdown of the night with less than a minute left in the half. Just a few short seconds later, the Highlanders recovered a fumble on the kickoff in Lion territory. The Woodlands capitalized on the turnover when Player of the Game, quarterback Eric Schmid threw a touchdown pass, giving the Highlanders a 14-0 lead over Spring.

The Highlanders continued to press Spring in the second quarter, but Spring blocked their field goal attempt and would come back later in the half to score their only touchdown of the night. The Woodlands came back again late in the quarter for another touchdown, but the extra point was no good, and brought them to their halftime score of 21-7, Highlanders.

The Woodlands and Spring returned to a slow second half, but in the fourth quarter, the Highlanders blocked a deep punt for a safety, bringing them to a new score of 29-7. Senior running back Carlos Ramos added another touchdown for the Highlanders and brought them to the end-of-game score, 36-7.

The Woodlands Highlanders will host Katy High School at Woodforest Stadium Friday, September 9 at 7:30.
